Supper at Lakespring UMC. Man do they put out a spread!

Wednesday 7/14 Pedaling Parsons Update

Amazing that we are 8 miles north of Port Byron, New York at a little country church (Spring Lake UMC) and I found a wifi connection. Before I post, You might also want to see Don's Blog at http://don.northcantongrace.org/ Rev. Don Richards is the leader of our Pedaling Parsons Group.

Yesterday, I didn't take time to post much. It was an interesting day with a 12-14 mile wrong turn which allowed us to see downtown Rochester. Then after we got back on track, a huge thunderstorm came in and shortened our day a bit. I only rode 70 of my goal of 80 miles. Then we found that our shower facility only had one shower for 29 people. Needless to say that took some time and my shower came about 8:00 after supper.

Today, we had a much more comfortable day riding - a little cooler and no rain. With an additional 13 miles before the first break, my friend Marcus and I ended the day at 81 miles. Now we've had a little extra time to relax this late afternoon before supper at 6:00. I really am hungry as my heart rate monitor says that I am burning about 4000 calories per day on the bike.

Tonight most of us will be sleeping in the vacant parsonage and some in the small church. The newly appointed pastor is also appointed to another church north of here, and she has chosen to live in the other parsonage.

Our route this year is taking us from Niagara Falls east towards Syracuse, then we're turning around and riding back to where we started. Some of the cyclists are traveling on the Erie Canal Towpath while others of us are sticking to NY Bike Route 5 which is State Route 31.

It is a really great group and we're riding for a great cause...to build a dormitory at the Camphor Mission in Liberia. If you would like to support our effort, you may donate to Solon UMC marked "Pedaling Parson" and we'll get the money to the Camphor Mission Dormitory project.

I will try to continue to update with my phone and pictures.

Blessings from the road,

Scott

3rd break of the day. Marcus and I are at 57 miles so far.
